Emily Pimental Golf Scholarship The Pimental family in conjunction with Plymouth Country Club is now accepting applications for the “Emily Pimental Golf Scholarship.” Boys and girls, ages 11 to 15 from Plymouth, Carver, and Kingston may apply. The scholarship provides for entrance in the Plymouth Country Club junior membership program for 2010. Group lessons begin around July 1. Attendance for all lessons is a must for completion of the program. Applications are available at Plymouth Country Club and at Ernie’s Restaurant, 330 Court St, Plymouth
CMHS Literary Club seeks used books for fundraiser Want to get rid of your used books? Carver Middle High School’s Literary Club is raising money through donations of new and used books, CDs, DVDs, videos, records and audio books. They have recently placed a drop-off donation container to collect these items from community members who’d like to repurpose their used goods while also helping the school group raise money. The group will be paid on an ongoing basis for all items collected in their donation container. The gray book donation container, distinguished by its purple and yellow ‘Got Books?’ signs, is located in the parking lot of the Carver Middle High School at 60 South Meadow Road. This program is an ongoing fundraiser and donations can be made by the public at any time. All funds raised through the collection of these donations will benefit the school’s Literary Club. Friends of S.S. Hospital offers nursing scholarship The Friends of South Shore Hospital are pleased to offer the Marion C. Martinsen Scholarship for high school seniors or graduates who are pursuing, or intending to pursue an education to become a Registered Nurse. The $1,000 Marion C. Martinsen Scholarship was established to encourage students to enter the nursing profession. Applicant criteria are as follows: Must be a high school senior at, or graduate from, an accredited public, private, or parochial school Most recent grade point average must be B- or above Must be intending to enroll or enrolled in an accredited program to become a Registered Nurse Employees of South Shore Hospital and members of their immediate family will be given preference South Shore residents will be given preference Scholarships may be awarded to students with financial needs, only after previous criteria are met. Catharine H. Shaw Scholarship accepting applications The Catharine H. Shaw Memorial Scholarship Trust is now soliciting applicants for a scholarship that is to be awarded to former students of the Carver, school system. Funded by the late Henry M. Shaw in memory of his wife, Catharine H. Shaw. Both were educators in Carver schools for many years. Two awards were granted last year, each for $2000. The amount may vary from year to year. The criteria to be considered for the award is as follows: “Said Award shall be granted to any sophomore, junior or senior in college or a second or third year student in a technical school whose parents have been residents of Carver for at least five (5) years…Said recipient must have graduated, scholastically, in the upper half of his or her high school graduating class.” The committee welcomes candidates to write to the Catharine Shaw Scholarship Trust, P. O. Box 294, Carver, MA 02330. This must be postmarked no later than June 30 . This correspondence must reasonably document the above criteria plus any additional information that could assist the scholarship committee with their choice of a recipient.
